How to Make Marbled Cookies

Marbling cookies is one of the easiest techniques with the most stunning results. They’re as easy as it gets! I’m using snowflakes shaped cookies, but you can use any shape cutter to match the season or themed you’d like. Lets make them!

Use a 10 second icing:

I like using royal icing at a 10-second consistency. When I mention seconds I’m talking about how long it takes the icing to smooth itself back out after you drag a knife through it. 10 second icing is similar to the consistency of honey. After you get it to the correct consistency, make sure you get rid of any air bubbles on the surface. Grab my recipe here: Royal Icing

Color 2 other icings:

You’ll also need a couple shades of blue – or whatever colors you want to use – and a scribe tool or even a toothpick will come in handy. I like to put my colors in small disposable piping bags.

The Cookie:

My cookies are a little thicker, about 5/16 of an inch, and I baked them until they were golden on the bottom. That makes them a little sturdier than a softer cookie that might break while we’re dipping it. Grab my recipe here: Cut-Out Cookie

Drizzle:

Okay, here’s the fun part. Drizzle the colored icing over the white, going in 2 different directions. So, one color goes back and forth and the other color up and down. Or get wild and drizzle it any way you want!

Dip:

Then, flip your cookie over and dip it right into the icing. Make sure all of the edges get down in there.

Give It a Little Shake:

Lift it up out of the icing just a little and give it a gentle shake so the excess icing can drip off.

Pop The Air Bubbles:

Then flip it back over facing upright. Right away, use your scribe tool or toothpick to pop any air bubbles. I didn’t do the best job getting rid of mine beforehand. How dare they pop up like that!

Re-Drizzle:

Before you dip the next cookie, drizzle a little more colored icing over the top. You don’t need nearly as much this time, just add it wherever the color is starting to disappear. Then just keep going with the rest of your cookies, and be sure to drizzle more colored icing as needed.

Stunning Results:

I have to show you this one because look at those beautiful swirls of blue and white! It just did that on its own! Isn’t that gorgeous?

Finish it!

Once they’re all dipped, you can add a little edible glitter if you want some extra sparkle.

These are absolutely beautiful, and they really are so easy. Enjoy!
