Cut Out Sugar Cookies
Our favorite sugar cookie recipe for cut out cookies.
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks) Softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp princess bakery emulsion
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cups all purpose flour
In a mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy and well incorporated. Add vanilla, salt and egg. Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed.
Slowly add the flour to the butter mixture. The dough will be ready when it sticks to the paddle.
Sprinkle a piece of parchment paper with flour and roll the dough out to ¼ inch thickness. Transfer the dough to a cookie sheet and chill for 30 minutes.
Take the chilled dough out of the refrigerator, and use the templates to cut out the cookie shapes.
Place them into the oven at 375 degrees for about 8-10 minutes.
After baking, remove the cookies from the baking sheet with a spatula and allow to cool completely before applying icing.
You can substitute any flavorings for the vanilla and princess bakery emulsion.
Recipe adapted from Semi Sweet Designs
- 2 lbs confectioner's sugar
- 5 tbsp meringue powder
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 - 3/4 cup water
Mix the flavoring into half the water.
Using a mixer, combine the meringue powder and powdered sugar.
Slowly add the water and flavoring into the dry ingredients. The icing will then become very thick.
Next add the remaining water and mix on medium speed and whip until thick and fluffy. Stop mixing when the icing forms a soft peak.
You can add more water as needed to reach the desired piping consistency.
